The Department of Clinical Psychology at Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) is an autonomous department. This department functions in the areas of care of patients, teaching, resource development, and research. It is the oldest autonomous department of Clinical Psychology in India.
The Department of Clinical Psychology started in 1949. It happens to have the first Clinical
Psychology research center in the country. Psychoanalysis was utilized as an approach to treating personality disorders and the utilization of habit formation charts has been in vogue since 1924. The commencement of the behavior therapy room took place in the year 1950 in this institute. It was started as a Diploma in Medical and Social Psychology in 1962, and later named an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology.
