Important Eligibility for PhD Psychology Admission

UGC has decided that from the academic session 2024-25. The NET score can be used for admission to PhD programmes in place of entrance tests conducted by the different universities. Hence, the NET JRF Psychology exam has become important to every psychology student if they are aiming for admission into a PhD Psychology course.

Based on the scores obtained in the UGC NET, applicants are categorized into three groups according to their NET qualification:

  1. Category 1: Qualified for JRF, Assistant Professor, and Ph.D. admission.
  2. Category 2: Qualified for Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admission.
  3. Category 3: Qualified for Ph.D. admission only.

Candidates who qualify for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET and similar National level tests shall be eligible for admission to the PhD Programme based on an interview only.

For Categories 2 and 3, the University will give 70% weightage to NET scores and 30% weightage to the interview for admission to the PhD program.

Note: NET scores are valid for one year for PhD admission under Categories 2 and 3.3.
