The Graduate Record Examination, or GRE is a standardized test that is a prerequisite for admission to graduate schools in many foreign countries, including the United States, and Canada.
Educational Testing Service, known as ETS, regulates and conducts the GRE Test. The exam is held multiple times a year.
There are two types of GRE Entrance Tests –
General Test
The GRE assesses the candidate’s ability in Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Critical Thinking, and Analytical Writing. These skills, which are essential and cultivated over an extended duration, are not specific to any particular field of study.
Subject Test
The GRE Subject Tests aim to assess your competency and specialization in a particular academic field. These tests are specifically intended for individuals who have either obtained a bachelor’s degree or gained significant experience in any of the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Psychology
Note: From April 2023, ETS discontinued Chemistry Tests; however, the test scores will remain valid for a duration of five years starting from the test date.
Psychology in Subject Test.

- Biological (30 Questions)
